An analysis of the bookings made during 2020 to travel in 2021 revealed that Lisbon is at the top of the ranking of the favorite destinations for travelers this year. In second place follows Istanbul , while Fort de France , in Martinique, occupies the third position. Apart from Fort de France, only one other destination – Bangkok – sits outside Europe in the top 10. Most Europeans prefer nearby destinations on the same continent as the best places to travel in 2021.

Long-haul vacations fell to only 20% of the top 10 in user preferences, a notable decrease from bookings analyzed for 2020, where 9 out of 10 destinations were long-haul, with Australia leading the way.

We also analyzed the destinations sought by our consumers in the immediate aftermath of the positive news about the vaccine development, in early November 2020. Following the announcement of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, our European consumers immediately started looking for long-haul destinations. like Dubai , New York or Tokyo .

To compile the list of the best destinations to travel to in 2021, we collected internal data on bookings made by more than 17 million customers during 2020 (through the end of November) for trips booked at any time in 2021.

For the list of the most sought-after destinations, we considered the data relating to searches carried out between 9 and 22 November 2020, 2 weeks after the announcement on the positive developments of the anti-covid vaccine.
